About Us

Blalock Landscaping and Drainage was founded in 1996 by Johnny Blalock, a Texas A&M graduate from the Texas Hill Country. He began his career as a landscaper and certified nurseryman, specializing in the beautification of residential properties. It didn’t take long for Johnny to notice a recurring problem: even the most beautiful landscapes were often undermined by standing rainwater with nowhere to go.

As Houston’s intense downpours and flooding became impossible to ignore, Johnny began studying drainage systems in depth, learning how water moves across and beneath a property and how to track drainage problems back to their source. With that knowledge, drainage naturally became a focus. Once he understood how to design effective, long-lasting systems, Johnny made a point to incorporate beauty into his custom drainage solutions—using his landscaping background to create systems that were not only functional, but visually integrated into the landscape. Rather than relying on short-term fixes, he began installing storm drain systems instead of traditional French drains, prioritizing quick water discharge away from structures and addressing issues at their root. This approach led to creative, durable solutions designed to perform year after year, even in the toughest conditions.

Today, the company remains family-owned, with daughter Ashley Davey continuing that legacy—combining decades of practical knowledge with a thoughtful, modern approach to landscaping and drainage.
